A one day course which is aimed at the amateur first time breeder, covering everything you need to know about breeding from your mare. 

The following areas will be covered :-

• Suitable mares for breeding
• Pre breeding tests, swabs, EVA, vaccinations
• The use of A.I, Fresh, chilled ,frozen semen, pros & cons
• Natural covering pros & cons
• Vets/A.I packages
• Selection of a stallion inc. Grading & paperwork
• Selection of a stud & A.I centre, facilities, BQM
• Sending a mare to stud
• Explanation of terms, jargon & veterinary packages.
• Help on avoiding the many pitfalls

FOALING COURSE FOR THE AMATEUR/1ST TIME BREEDER

2010 COURSE DATE  28th February 2010

A one day course which is aimed at the amateur or first time breeder, covering everything you need to know from the mare’s last month of pregnancy to the all important first week of the foals life.
 The following areas will be covered :-

• Relevant anatomy of the mare
• Preparation for foaling stable, equipment, cctv & foaling alarms
• Complications of late pregnancy
• Feeding, exercise, vaccinations & worming in late pregnancy
• Normal foaling, what should happen & when
• Complications of foaling, when to get help
• Examination of the new born foal & placenta
• Orphan foals & adoption
• The first week of the foals life, normal behaviour
• Foaling heat

ADVANCED FOALING COURSE

2010 DATE 20th March 2010

An in depth one day course aimed at the Equine Degree student, Veterinary Nursing student & professional breeders.
 The following areas will be covered in depth :-

• Preparation for foaling stable, equipment, CCTV & foaling alarms
• Complications of late pregnancy
• Normal foaling in the mare
• Complications of foaling, twins
• Examination of the new born foal
• Placenta examination
• Orphan foals & adoption
• Abnormalities in the new born foal
• Post parturition problems

 

THE FIRST YEAR OF THE FOAL’S LIFE

 2010 COURSE DATE 21st March 2010

A one day course aimed at small & large breeders
The following areas will be covered :-

• Foal, weaning & yearling handling
• Vaccinations, worming & passports
• Common diseases & problems
• Foot care, misalignment problems & corrective procedures
• Feeding & nutritional problems
• Travelling the mare & foal, weanling & yearling
• Showing the mare & foal & yearling

CERTIFICATE IN EQUINE TRANSPORT SHORT & LONG JOURNEY

Are you legal? There is a very grey area as to who needs this certificate in competance to travel their horses. For the sake of a few hours is it worth taking a chance?
COURSE DATE March 10th 2010

Course includes theory in the morning & test in the afternoon.
We currently have some funding available for 18years & under for this course making the course £50 for this age group.
Normal Course Fee Including Registration & Test Fee (for over 18years) £175 Short Journe £185 Long journey + VAT
Refreshments & lunch provided
Please note due to the registration process for this course all applications must be submitted & paid 3 weeks prior to the date in order to get the registration through in time for the exam.

 

BHS HORSE OWNER'S CERTIFICATE

(LEVEL 1)
COURSE DATE TO RUN OVER 4 WEEKS STARTING FEB 6TH  2010
THIS COURSE RUNS OVER 4 WEEKS 2 HOURS PER WEEK ( 10AM-12PM) WITH THE EXAM IN THE LAST WEEK

Course fee including Registration & Exam £80 +VAT

 

BHS HORSE OWNER'S CERTIFICATE

(LEVEL 2)
THIS COURSE WILL RUN SIMILAR TO THE LEVEL 1,  
IN MARCH 2010
DELEGATES ON THIS COURSE WILL ALSO HAVE THE OPTION TO TAKE THE INTERMEDIATE TECHNICAL CERTIFICATE (ANOTHER QUALIFICATION ) AT NO EXTRA CHARGE
